Author Virginia Christian Beach Visits Dewees Island

On Friday, May 16, the Dewees Island Conservancy hosted Charleston author, Virginia Christian Beach.  Beach spoke on her recently published book, Rice and Ducks: The Surprising Convergence that Saved the Carolina Lowcountry, and was accompanied by representatives of our local Ducks Unlimited.  The trio provided a slide show and did an incredible job of explaining the relationship between this non-profit and conservation in the South Carolina lowcountry.  Rice and Ducks is a beautiful book and a compelling history of this glorious part of our state.  Beach deftly weaves together the history of the land and its inhabitants and how this enchanting area has survived despite the spoils of man and nature.  It is a must read for anyone with a connection to the South Carolina lowcountry!
